Le Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval

France hotels

Le Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval is one of the most unique offerings in France. This is certainly not the traditional stately home. It has a sense of charm and an original looking design. This home was built by Ferdinand Cheval. Cheval was a local postman and lived from 1836 to 1924.

Ferdinand Cheval was not the typical postman. In his spare time, he set about building one of the area’s most well known structures. Cheval began this venture in 1879. It took him a total of 33 years to complete his home. This terrific attraction is situated in the city of Hauterives in France. It is now an intriguing location for tourists to visit.

In the building process, Cheval carried stones found on his route. These stones were transported to the site of his home. They would be used in the construction of the structure. The walls of Le Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval took two decades to complete. Many marvel at the design of this nontraditional home. Others are intrigued by the longevity of this structure.

Cheval found his inspiration in a number of different places. He took some of this inspiration from the pages of the Bible. It is also believed that he used Hindu mythology in the construction of Le Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval. Along with these, Cheval used lime, mortar, and cement. These were used as binding components for his stone structure.

Those visiting the Hauterives region should include this attraction in their plans. Tourists will find that this location is available to them from Monday to Sunday. The operating hours here are from 9:30am-12:30pm and 13:30pm-19:00pm.
