Arc de Triomphe

Many of the historic sites in Frances are commonly recognized from photos. The Arc de Triomphe is certainly one of the most popular of these attractions. Tourists from around the world visit these areas each year. In fact, the Arc de Triomphe receives 1.5 million visitors annually.

The design of this structure adds to it charm. This is a monument found in the center of Place Charles de Gaulle. This is the western end of Champs Elysees. The arc was built to honor many who had fought for France. It recognizes those who fought during the Napoleonic Wars. The design even includes the generals’ names.

The Arc de Triomphe also includes the names of the wars fought. The view of this structure from the Right Bank of the Seine is great. It was designed by Jean Chalgrin. Chalgrin lived from 1739 - 1811. After his death, the construction of the arc was taken over by Jean Nicolas Huyot.
