Flying domestic in France

Whether you are a visitor to France or a resident, at some point you may find yourself needing to fly from one destination to another within the country. France has a great number of airports, but you will not be able to use just any of them for domestic travel. Air France is the most widely used airline for travel within France. You can hop on an airplane in Paris and be just about anywhere in the country in about one hour. That is quick travel time to reach those must-see destinations in France.

Charles de Gaulle International Airport, located just outside of Paris, is the largest airport in France. You can consider this airport the primary “hub” of France. It handles domestic flights, as well as international and charter flights. Paris Orly International Airport is located south of Paris.

This airport also handles domestic, international and charter flights. Either one of these airports will get you where you need to go in a hurry. Air France will fly you to your desired destination from both airports.

If you are in the south of France, you can still find a flight. Bordeaux International Airport, located in Merignac, which is just outside of Bordeaux, offers international and domestic flights. If you are in the center of France, Lyon offers the Lyon Saint-Exupery International Airport. This airport is perfect if you are looking to head to the Alps for a holiday. Both Nice and Marseille each have rather good-sized airports, which accommodate domestic and international flights.

Indeed, it’s not uncommon for Parisians to take a weekend holiday along the coast to visit Cannes, Nice or any number of other cities along the ocean. You must remember that these are only the major airports in France. Many smaller, budget-friendly airports offer cheaper flights. You might not get there as fast, but you can definitely save some money. The best thing you can do is shop around for the lowest rates to fly to your destination. If you want to see all that France has to offer, spread your wings and hop on a plane. Flying is not just for the birds anymore!
